Making a Small Kitchen Work Harder
King Road Kitchen Renovation
Designed for a Busy Family
For this busy family of five, plus two cats, the small eat-in kitchen simply wasn't keeping up. Storage was limited, workspace was tight and the existing layout didn't support the realities of everyday family life.
The homeowners wanted better storage, a dedicated lunch-prep area and a more functional kitchen—all within a modest budget. A perimeter bulkhead couldn't be removed, so the new design also needed to work within that constraint.
Rather than trying to make the kitchen larger, we focused on
making the space they already had work harder.

Making Every Inch Count
The original peninsula was replaced with slightly shallower cabinetry featuring easy-access drawer storage, upper cabinets for additional storage and the microwave, and enough room for a custom live-edge bar table.
Across the room, a dedicated lunch-prep and coffee area supports busy mornings, while a floor-to-ceiling pantry beside the refrigerator includes hidden pull-out shelves for hard-to-reach items. Another freestanding cabinet provides a home for the vacuum, brooms, cat food and other everyday necessities.
A white farmhouse sink and new flooring throughout the main floor completed the update.
The result: more storage, better function and a place for everything—without increasing the kitchen's footprint.
