Making the Impossible Possible

Heritage Road Guest Bathroom Renovation

A Small Bathroom with Big Possibilities

This was our first project with these homeowners, who wanted to transform their original, 50-year-old bathroom into a brighter, more functional space for guests and occasional personal use.

The bathroom was dark, awkward and outdated. During our initial conversations, I discovered that what they really wanted was a steam shower—but they didn't believe there was enough room.

Rather than increase the bathroom's footprint, we completely redesigned the existing space and found a way to accommodate a steam shower for two.

Creative Solutions in a Compact Space

Every inch mattered. We designed the shower with an angled glass door that allowed both the shower door and the floating vanity drawers to open without interfering with each other.

A strategically placed knee wall provided a concealed location for the steam generator while also screening the toilet from view when entering the bathroom. The glass enclosure included an operable panel above the door to allow steam to escape after use.

We also made room for a freestanding linen cabinet, replacing the storage previously provided by the bathroom's built-in cabinetry.

With thoughtful space planning, carefully selected materials and finishes, and the homeowner completing much of the renovation work himself, we transformed the room without increasing its square footage.

What began as a single bathroom renovation became the start of a lasting working relationship. A year later, the homeowners invited us back to undertake a much larger renovation of their main floor.

The result is a bright, inviting bathroom that delivers more than the homeowners thought possible—including the steam shower for two they had hoped for.
