A Second Floor Designed for Family Life
As part of a whole-home renovation, the homeowners wanted to make better use of their second floor, improving the bedrooms, bathrooms and storage while creating space for two people working from home.
The existing primary bedroom had an awkward layout and limited storage. By removing two poorly positioned closets and reconfiguring the space, we created room for a king-size bed and a more functional arrangement.
We also enlarged the primary ensuite by approximately two feet, creating a more comfortable bathroom with improved functionality and carefully selected finishes.
The children's bedroom and main bathroom were redesigned to better accommodate the needs of a growing family, with practical storage, updated finishes and thoughtful details throughout.
Spaces That Grow with the Family
With both homeowners working from home, creating two separate workspaces was an important part of the renovation. One office was incorporated into the primary bedroom, while the second shared space with the nursery.
The layout was designed to accommodate the family's changing needs. Once the youngest child was old enough, they would move into the sibling's bedroom with the bunk beds. The crib would then be removed from the nursery, and the sleeper sofa relocated from the children's bedroom to create a combined home office and guest room.
By planning ahead, we created flexible spaces that could adapt as the family grew, without the need for another renovation.
Throughout the upper level, updated flooring, lighting, colour schemes and storage solutions helped bring the different spaces together while allowing each room to reflect its purpose.
The result is a more functional, comfortable second floor that meets the family's needs today while providing the flexibility to adapt as their lives change.
